Position Summary:

The Coating Product Engineer will plan and lead coating events to make radiography screen material, maintain and improve product quality test systems, and consult on process repair and maintenance.  Will be responsible for leading team meetings and trainings, identifying safety, environmental, quality and production issues.  Coordinates activities with production teams to maximize productivity and minimize cost, reducing waste while proactively addressing reliability concerns.  Additionally, will lead the team by demonstrating and ensuring a quality culture.

Position Responsibilities:

• Works with the team to proactively identify and take measures to address concerns with product quality, regulatory documentation, test systems, and process issues impacting products.

• Actively supervising and developing the Operations team to ensure effective communication across shifts, and with the production teams during assigned coating events. 

• Consult and aid Process Engineer in predictive and preventive maintenance systems to reduce unscheduled downtime.

• Efficient use of reliable troubleshooting methods to ensure uptime, production volumes and quality goals are met.

• Implements effective training processes to build and enhance the team’s technical skills.

• Assists the team in diagnosing malfunctions in machinery and equipment.

• Performs process and software validations / re-validations

• Maintains product quality test systems including VBA program updates and ensuring regulatory compliance.

• Work Hours:   Mainly days, 40+hours.   Must be able to work a flexible schedule to include 24-hour coverage (phone) of assigned coating events between Monday morning and Thursday afternoon.

Required Skills & Education:

• Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Imaging Science disciplines (are used routinely in this position). Technology specialization included: mass & heat transfer, vapor / liquid equilibrium, rheology, process control, liquid mixing, etc.  Must have to ability and passion to apply these technologies.

• Minimum of 5 years of related experience, leadership experience is a plus.

• Knowledgeable in the areas of X-hopper and solvent coating, Imaging science (specifically X-ray), Excel VBA and other Programming, polymer and inorganic chemistry, medical device regulations, mechanical drives and components, troubleshooting, repair techniques.

• Ability to identify root cause of problems and effectively initiate immediate corrective action to prevent reoccurrence.

• Excellent interpersonal, verbal, written, and electronic communication skills.

• Computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel, Excel VBA, and other programming.  LabView experience is a plus.  Must be willing to learn.

• Proven ability to work within a team and be accountable to meet department metrics and goals.

• Proven ability to work within a framework of regulatory compliance.  Procedure writing competency required.

• Strong planning and organizational skills.

Desired Skills:

• 5-10 years of related experience, leadership experience is a plus.

• Strong work ethic, good judgment, and decision-making skills.

• Track record of consistently demonstrating a positive attitude which influences safety, quality, environmental, productivity and people development.

Work Environment:

• Mainly indoors. Chemical, coating, and manufacturing environment.
