Position Summary:

Head of Productivity & Excellence

Head of P&E is a key member of the Global Chief Technology Office. This leader will deploy strategy, initiatives, define the operational practices, tools and framework across R&D to drive scale and efficiencies for our global businesses. This role will direct efforts to create transformative, comprehensive and self-sustaining operational excellence capabilities and become best in class for delivery, improve quality, reduce waste, and maximize process performance within R&D and support functions. Drives productivity across the R&D enterprise utilizing continuous improvement, strategy execution and change management. Partners with resources across the R&D organization to create communities of practice and a culture of operational excellence. This role is an interdepartmental nexus between R&D and other global functions.

Head of P&E reports directly to the Chief Technology Officer.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Lead CTO Strategic Planning Process, budgeting, capacity planning, and allocation across all segments.
  • Own R&D operational infrastructure, processes, procedures, and departmental operating mechanism.
  • Define key metrics, benchmarks, and review processes to drive standardization and establish best practices for PMs, and own Policy Deployment Matrix for CTO.
  • Establish framework, templates, process, and cadence to foster a culture of continuous improvement and best practice sharing.
  • Partner with engineering managers to drive the alignment and execution across-functional workstreams
  • Set up automated systems to instrument, gather, analyze data to enable data-driven decision making.
  • Manage relationships with internal/external stakeholders in business units and other research centers to align strategic directions
  • Track & help enhance employee engagement.
  • Drive a continuous improvement culture through targeted initiatives, customized coaching, including Lean workshops, Six Sigma, communication and influence at all levels of the organization.
  • Partner, leverage and integrate improvement and productivity efforts across the organization.
  • Expert resource to the business on Lean Six Sigma philosophy, theory and application tools / tactics. Provide mentorship to R&D employees through continuous improvement and change management efforts.
  • Create and implement strategy to drive efficiency and increase performance through standardization
  • Brings expertise or identifies subject matter experts in support of multi-functional efforts in process improvement, data capture and analysis, infrastructure support, tool ownership and compliance with procedures, etc.
  • Ensures that policies and procedures align with corporate vision.
  • Continually challenge the status quo and persistently dig for improvement opportunities and lead/develop team to do the same.
  • Establish a passion for operational excellence within R&D and operations programs, with a focus on business transformation. Promote the value of operational excellence across the organization and create demand for the benefits of this discipline within key functions.
  • Serve as facilitator and champion for operational excellence across the company. Coach, mentor and support colleagues in achievement of initiatives and targets.

Required Skills & Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in technology or management.  Advanced degree such as MS/MBA preferred.
  • 15+ years of experience in strategic planning, R&D operations or business excellence for a global technology company and/or business consulting. 9 years of management experience and 5 years in project management desired.
  • Strong organizational skills with excellent interpersonal, communication skills. Competent in presentations at all levels within the organization up to and including the executive management team.
  • Proven experience working in a cross-cultural, multi-national corporation and effective in virtual settings.
  • Expertise in Lean, Six Sigma and problem-solving techniques. Green to Black Belt Six Sigma or Lean expert certification preferred.
  • Proven hands-on experience facilitating global workshops.
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Ability to operate at strategic planning, tactical execution levels, and able to build a collaborative environment with stakeholders across product, engineering, finance, customer success, and leadership to ensure strategic objectives are met.
  • Consistently demonstrate executive maturity and intellectual curiosity, helping the team pursue the best ideas
  • Exhibit leadership & executive presence, and be comfortable leading initiatives and reviews with executive stakeholders
  • Ability to adapt quickly and thrive in fast-moving, fast-changing environments
  • Thorough understanding of the development lifecycle and product management best practices such as lean product management.
  • Strong quantitative, analytical, fact-based problem-solving skills and ability to successfully complete complex initiatives.
  • Travel locally and internationally may be required.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience in an Imaging or medical device global organization is a plus
