Position Summary:

Summary of Position:

 

The Director of Software Development is a hands-on leader of the Software Engineering team aligning priorities to ensure that all software products and components needed for X-ray systems are delivered on schedule with committed functionality/performance and quality and within budget. Primary responsibilities also include implementation of technologies required to build, update and maintain the product code base. To accomplish these tasks, the Director of Development oversees a team of experienced developers and interacts with engineers and managers from other functions and other R&D sites.

The software development team delivers embedded and application product software in support of product development for a portfolio of medical X-ray products and systems. This function will assist in the creation of customer use cases and product architecture. The team also owns sustaining engineering of software on existing products. Under the guidance of the Director the Software Development team will create and maintain a software implementation roadmap in support of a defined product system and software architecture and supported product roadmaps. Additional responsibilities include the development of tools and processes for design, implementation and testing creating best-practice processes for tracking software changes and bugs as well as conducting design and code reviews. Responsibilities for this role will also include hiring and developing personnel, leading a team / managing cross-functional projects, ensuring compliance with governing Quality Management System requirements and overall Regulatory compliance.

Experience in realizing productivity by reducing time to market while expanding and increasing the utilization of our global resources. A strong advocate to make software a key differentiator in our products by providing Artificial Intelligence (AI) and key applications for the customer.  Experience in developing highly reliable, complex software for medical applications/devices following design control procedures. Driving automation and efficiency in development and testing.  Experience developing applications for mobile and cloud-based environments. Experience in Cyber is a plus.

 

Position Responsibilities:

Guides Software engineering Team on overall direction and strategies for the software organization. Collaborates with WW software engineering centers and software teams to drive common processes.
Contributes innovative ideas and leading solutions to help drive software as a key differentiator in the products.
Collaborates with all members of the R&D team to drive efficiency and product success
Works with customers and product line mangers to understand their needs and requirements, assess the product usability in the field, educate them on the product, enhance communication and build positive relationships
Drives opportunities for product, tool, quality of life, etc. improvements and directs implementation efforts
Identifies and drives the implementation of process improvements / simplification

Required Skills & Education:

BS or MS degree in Computer Science, Management information systems, software engineering, Computer Engineering or related field.
Global experience specifically APAC
Minimum 15 years’ experience in Software development and management.
Minimum 5 years in a medical device software development
Experience developing device control applications for stand-alone systems with a graphical user interface and customized, application-specific hardware systems.
Experience in defining and developing custom algorithms and feedback for electromechanical systems.
Strong leadership, management, organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills with the ability to influence others.
Ability to effectively interface with team members in remote locations.  Willing to travel; domestic and international.
Able to effectively interface with all project disciplines including Research, Business Development, Service, Manufacturing, Regulatory, Marketing, Quality
Ability to manage personnel, projects, priorities and workflow in a fast-paced environment.
Demonstrated ability to realize productivity in design and testing.
Demonstrated project planning, estimation and release management ability.
Experience with Agile methodologies, preferably Scrum.
Experience with measurement and improvement of software quality.
Experience managing and/or directing software development projects
Experience with software development tools and procedures
Experience in all aspects of the product development lifecycle
Knowledgeable of IEC 62304 and development under FDA compliant procedures
Knowledgeable of risk management techniques and procedures defined by ISO 14971, FDA guidance, and other international standards
Proficient in Software Engineering, Data Structures, and Object-Oriented Programing
Experience working within product development quality system
Commitment to excellence and high standards
Excellent written and oral communication skills

 

Desired Skills:

  • Hands-on Development and Architecture Experience in Visual Studio, MS SQL, Web Services
  • Experience with Windows based embedded and/or Windows IoT development using C#
  • Experience with microcontroller development in C and C++
  • Experience with embedded Linux development
  • Experience with human factors and user centered design
  • Broad technical experience across disciplines including electrical, mechanical, and software engineering
  • Six Sigma or DFSS experience

Work Environment:

US based remote with extensive travel to APAC and other Global locations
