Compensation $20-25 per hour

*This range reflects Carestream’s good faith estimate to pay fairly as starting wage. Offers will be tailored within the range based on the selected candidate’s experience, industry knowledge, technical and communication skills, and other factors that may prove relevant during the interview process, as well as geographic market differentials for the position.

Position Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Imaging Algorithm Software Development Intern to join our dynamic team for the summer of 2024. The successful candidate will play a key role in designing, developing, and optimizing advanced imaging algorithms for our software applications. This role requires expertise in image processing, computer vision, and algorithm development. The ideal candidate should have a strong background in software engineering, mathematics, and a passion for solving complex problems in the field of imaging.

Carestream does not supply a housing stipend.  Candidates must have housing and transportation in Rochester, NY.

Position Responsibilities:

1.    Algorithm Development:
•    Design, implement, and optimize advanced imaging algorithms for processing and analyzing various types of images and videos monochromatic images from x-ray systems.
•    Work on feature extraction, image segmentation, pattern recognition, and other computer vision tasks to enhance the capabilities of our imaging software.

2.    Software Development:
•    Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate imaging algorithms, and efficient image processing chains into software applications.
•    Write high-quality, efficient, and maintainable code in languages such as C++, Python, or other relevant programming languages.

3.    Testing and Validation:
•    Conduct thorough testing and validation of imaging algorithms to ensure accuracy, reliability, and robustness across diverse datasets and use cases.
•    Debug and troubleshoot issues related to algorithm performance and integration with the software.

4.    Research and Innovation:
•    Stay abreast of the latest advancements in imaging algorithms, computer vision, and related technologies.
•    Contribute to research activities and propose innovative solutions to enhance the capabilities of our imaging software.

5.    Documentation:
•    Prepare detailed documentation for algorithms, code, and software architecture to facilitate collaboration and future development.

6.    Collaboration:
•    Work closely with interdisciplinary teams, including hardware engineers, data scientists, and software developers, to achieve project goals.
•    Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback to team members.

Required Skills & Education:

•    Bachelor's (3rd year or higher) or Master's student in  Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Image Science, or a related field.
•    Proven experience in developing and implementing imaging algorithms, computer vision algorithms, or similar.
•    Strong programming skills in languages such as C++, Python, or other relevant languages.
•    Familiarity with image processing libraries and frameworks (OpenCV, TensorFlow, PyTorch, etc.).
•    Solid understanding of mathematical concepts related to image processing and computer vision.
•    Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
•    Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Desired Skills:

•    Experience with parallel computing and GPU programming.
•    Knowledge of medical imaging or other specialized imaging domains.
•    Previous experience in developing algorithms for real-time applications.
